The first section of the Bogor Ring Road (BORR) toll road connecting Sentul Selatan and Kedunghalang areas, both in Bogor, West Java, has been opened for public use, Monday.
The toll road consists of three sections, which will be built in three phases, and allows road users to directly access several areas in Bogor from the Jagorawi toll road that leads to Jakarta and Ciawi.
While the first section of the road is ready to be used, its second and third sections are yet to be completed.
"With the BORR toll road, those living in North Bogor, Bogor City, Tanah Sareal and West Bogor no longer have to go through Bogor city center to get to the Jagorawi toll road, thus avoiding traffic. The second section of the BORR toll road will be opened in 2012. While section three will be opened in 2015," Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto said during his speech at the opening ceremony.
Director of state toll road operator PT Jasa Marga Tbk, Frans S. Sunito, said the 11-kilometer toll road is divided into three sections: the first a 3.7 kilometer road connecting Sentul Selatan area to Kedunghalang area, the second a 4.1 kilometer road connecting Kedunghalang to Yasmin, and the third a 3.2 kilometer stretch connecting Yasmin to Darmaga .
After the road's completion will be able to enter the first section of the toll road from the Jagorawi toll road and emerge in the Darmaga subdistrict in the Bogor regency bypassing traffic congestion in Bogor city center.
Director of PT Jasa Marga Sarana Jabar, which is a joint company established by PT Jasa Marga and the regionally-owned Jasa Sarana Jabar, Poncoyono Sudiro, said the new toll road has tolls ranging from Rp 3,000 (30 US cents) to Rp 9,000 for different types of vehicles.
Sedans, jeeps, pick-up trucks and buses must pay Rp 3,000 to use the toll road. Trucks with two axles must pay Rp 4,500, while trucks with five axles or more must pay Rp 9,000, he said.
Frans said that bus terminals would be built to accompany the BORR toll road.
"The BORR toll road construction will be followed by bus terminal constructions in the Ciluar area, North Bogor," he said. (dis)
