National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri officially replaced Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji as the chief detective in the wake of mounting pressure for the police to take action against the latter in connection with the Bank Century scandal and an alleged conspiracy to frame leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Susno would become a non-portfolio high-ranking officer at the National Police headquarters, National Police spokesman Insp Gen. Nanan Sukarna said Tuesday.

Insp. Gen. Ito Sumardi, currently the coordinator of the National Police chief’s expert staff, has been picked to take over from Susno and promoted to a commissioner general.

Nanan, however, refused to relate the much-awaited replacement with recommendations from a presidential fact-finding team on punitive actions against officials involved in the alleged plot to frame KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah.

“This is an ordinary tour of duty,” Nanan told a media conference held to announce a major reshuffle affecting 25 officers, including Susno.

In response to the fact-finding team’s advice, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office and the KPK to conduct internal reforms.

Susno has denied allegations that he took part in a conspiracy to implicate Bibit and Chandra and denies taking bribes in the Bank Century scandal.
