12 years sought for editor, youth leader in Medan riot

MEDAN: Prosecutors demanded 12 years' imprisonment Tuesday for each of two main suspects accused of involvement in a riot in Medan, North Sumatra, in February 2009.
The two - Sinar Indonesia Baru daily managing editor Viktor Siahaan and youth leader Parles Sianturi - face charges of murder and disrupting a plenary meeting at the North Sumatra Legislative Council.
The riot led to the death of council speaker Abdul Aziz Angkat.
Prosecutor S.P. Simaremare told the Medan District Court that Aziz was killed by blunt force trauma to the torso. - JP
