National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri has explained to Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji of his replacement as the force’s chief of detectives.
“I have been officially informed of my new appointment as a high-ranking officer of the National Police, and I will do my best to carry out this job,” Susno said after a meeting with Bambang on Wednesday.
Susno, whose replacement arrives in the wake of a landmark legal dispute incriminating top officials of the National Police, the AGO and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), said there was nothing untoward about his tour of duty.
However, Susno also dismissed speculation that his dismissal was a result of his role in the KPK debacle.
“This was just an ordinary tour of duty. As an officer I can neither decline nor choose an appointment,” Susno said as quoted by kompas.com.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked that internal reforms be carried out within the National Police and the AGO, in response to recommendations of a team of legal experts he appointed.
The team found that top officials of the National Police and Attorney General’s Office (AGO) had abused their power and conspired to criminalize KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah based on trumped-up charges of bribery, extortion and abuse of power.
The team also recommended sanctions against officials involved, and an investigation of Susno’s role in the Bank Century scandal.
