Ayu battles injury to take 1st win at Garuda

JAKARTA: Indonesia's tennis hopeful for the upcoming SEA Games, Ayu Fani Damayanti, overcame her right-ankle injury to grab her first win in the Rp 500-million Garuda Indonesia Tennis Masters on Wednesday.

Ayu pulled off a 6-0, 6-4 win over Laili Rahmawati in the round-robin competition.

She was injured during the finals of the recent Xpro Tennis Open in Jakarta, which prompted her to forfeit her final match against Lavinia Tananta. Her next match will be against Jessy Rompies, who lost 2-6, 2-6 to Romana Tedjakusuma on Wednesday.

Lavinia Tananta also won over Rani Fitria 6-1, 6-0, and will meet Cyntia Melita, who stunned Beatrice Gumulya 7-5, 6-3.

In the men's group, Christopher Rungkat beat Ryan Tanujoyo 6-2, 6-1, while Elbert Sie won over David Agung 6-4,6-4. Christopher will face David, while Elbert meets Ryan on Thursday.

The top two players will advance to the semifinals. - JP
