MATARAM: The government has decided to bring 461 workers home from Kuwait due to the problems they face in the country.
"Of the number, 60 have been sent home. We are preparing the other departures," Subhan, spokesman for the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry, told journalists in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, as quoted by Antara state news agency.
Subhan said the government would stop sending workers to Kuwait until the local government provided better conditions for Indonesian workers.
He said that Indonesian workers in Kuwait had to deal with low wages, unpaid insurance, unlimited work hours as well as physical and verbal abuse.
"There are many Indonesians who are interested in working in Kuwait, but the local government there has to solve these problems first," he said. - JP
