JAKARTA: Tangerang prosecutors are hunting down East Ciputat subdistrict chief, Djaenuddin, who is accused of embezzling nearly Rp 16 billion in state funds allocated toward the fight against illiteracy in the regency in 2007, Antara state news agency reported.

"The suspect is still at large," chief of Tangerang prosecutor's office, Suyono said Tuesday.

State prosecutors put Djaenuddin on their wanted list two months ago after he skipped summons for a questioning three times.

Tangerang Police chief detective Comr. Ari Wibowo said the police were helping the prosecutors locate Djaenuddin.

"We have been deploying officers to several places to locate the subdistrict chief's hideout," Ari said.

Djaenuddin's graft case has hampered public services at the East Ciputat subdistrict administration office over the past month. - JP
