A 6.2-magnitude earthquake scale hit Waingapu in East Nusatenggara in the afternoon Saturday, which was immediately followed by a 5.1-magnitude quake – the fourth and the fifth quakes that hit the area on the same day. No injuries or damaged have been reported.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the latest quake hit at 01:17 p.m., with its epicenter located at 194 kilometer southwest of Waingapu at 50 kilometers beneath the surface.
The 6.2-magnitude quake hit at 01:04, with its epicenter located at 194 kilometer southwest of Waingapu.
Earlier in the day, three earthquakes, measuring between 5.1 and 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the area at 06:36 a.m., 07:04 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. The epicenters of the earthquakes were also located at southwest of Waingapu.
Earlier this year, a tectonic earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook Kupang, the capital of the province.
