JAKARTA: A corpse was found floating in the East Flood Canal in Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta, on Friday.

Umar, a 27-year-old man, allegedly drowned while looking for fish in the canal to be used as bait.

"The victim may have drowned because the ground crumbled and he slipped," the head of the Duren Sawit Police criminal and detective unit, First Insp. Diah Tien Agustina, told news portal tempointeraktif.com.

The police have yet to establish a conclusive reason for the drowning. -JP

Correction

In the caption titled "Our very own Saman dance" that appeared on page 19 on Nov 25, we stated that "Jakarta International School (JIS) students" had performed the dance. It should have been "Australian International School (AIS) students". We apologize for the error.
