Fire raged in a densely populated slum near a mangrove forest in the coastal area in Pluit, North Jakarta, on Saturday morning, destroying 80 houses.

News portal tempointeraktif.com reported that the houses were left empty as their owner went to their hometown during the Islamic holiday of Idul Adha.

The fire began at around 8:30 a.m. and quickly spread among the houses, which were made of scrap wood and stood on bamboo stilts.

Firefighters deployed 15 firetrucks and managed to extinguished the fire an hour later with the help of local residents.

Local authorities said that around 120 families lost their house in the incident.
