Pos Indonesia to spend 6 times more on investment next year

S

tate postal service provider PT Pos Indonesia will allocate Rp 600 billion (US$ 63.6 million) to its capital expenditure next year, about six times more than in 2009.

"This year the capex is less than Rp 100 billion," Pos Indonesia president director I Ketut Mardjana told reporters after a hearing meeting between the House of Representatives and State Minister of State Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar in Jakarta on late Thursday.

He said the capex would be financed from its internal budget and some loans from banks.

"We have talked with several banks. They seem agree to give loans to us because we have no bad debts," I Ketut said, refusing to elaborate which banks.

Pos Indonesia will use the capex funds to finance the improvement of Information Technology (IT) services, the restoration of buildings and the revitalization of post office branches throughout the country.

"Although people prefer to use email to send their letters, many people still need Pos to deliver their letters or packages," he said.

The company has prepared several programs to boost net profits next year.

"We plan to improve our micro finance services for some service bills like telephone, electricity, water and housing loans. We will improve the technology so that our customers will be able to easily access Pos services," he said.

It is reported that Pos Indonesia currently services the transfer of funds averaging about Rp 80 trillion a year.

Another effort will be to build up mail delivery services like advertising mail, credit card bills, official letters and business letters.

"We will also improve logistic delivery in cooperation with airlines companies," I Ketut added.

According to I Ketut, Pos Indonesia is aiming to net Rp 90 billion in net profits in 2010, which is 50 percent higher than the Rp 60 billion targeted this year.

"Until October, our net profit was Rp 40 billion," he said.

Pos Indonesia aims for total gross revenue of Rp 3.7 trillion this year up from Rp 2.4 trillion last year.

In 2008 Pos Indonesia suffered Rp 40 billion in losses.
