Two members of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) are facing suspension for their role in the alleged incrimination of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairmen, LPSK chairman Abdul Haris Semendawai said Thursday.
He said I Ketut Sudiharsa and Myra Diarsi would likely be suspended officially during their trial by a code-of-ethics team Monday.
"*Sudiharsa and Myra* will likely be suspended from their current position due to their alleged involvement in the case," he said.
The agency has appointed two agency officials - Teguh Sudarsono and Sindu Krisno - and three independent investigators to form a code-of-ethics team to assess alleged ethical misconduct on the part of Sudiharsa and Myra and, should any be found, to punish them in accordance with the 2006 law on protection of witnesses and victims.
The team will have two weeks to conduct their investigations before submitting their findings at the LPSK's plenary leadership meeting. The LPSK will take the final decision.
"The team's working period may be extended," Abdul was quoted as saying by news portal detik.com on Thursday.
The establishment of the code-of-ethics team was aimed at following up on the recommendations of the presidential fact-finding team, which found indications of the involvement of officials from the LPSK, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office in allegedly fabricating extortion charges against the KPK leaders.
The high-ranking officials were allegedly plotting to frame two suspended KPK deputy chairmen, Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah.
The findings were based on the team's investigation and verification of wiretapped conversations among officials after the recording was played at the Constitutional Court on Nov. 3.
As indicated by Wednesday's Constitutional Court verdict - which accepted the judicial review requested by Bibit and Chandra - Sudiharsa, Myra and several high ranking officers from the National Police and AGO were involved in a conversation with Anggodo Widjojo who is alleged to play a key role in the conspiracy to incriminate Bibit and Chandra.
Anggodo is the younger brother of corruption fugitive Anggoro Widjojo who, according to Anggodo, asked him to give Rp 5.1 billion in bribes to the KPK to have an investigation into his graft case halted.
Bibit and Chandra denied extorting Anggoro and receiving money from Anggodo through broker Ari Muladi.
The police and the KPK have yet to confirm whether Sudiharsa and Myra would be questioned with regards to their alleged role as middlemen in the case.
The fiasco forced President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to establish a fact-finding team to probe the case.
One of the team's recommendations was to replace the officers implicated in the wiretapped recordings.
The National Police has replaced Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji as chief detective while Deputy Attorney General Abdul Hakim Ritonga has submitted his resignation, opting for early retirement. Attorney General Hendarman, however, has not yet approved the resignation.
