A rescue team is searching for a teenage visitor who was carried away by a strong river current around the Kakek Bodo Waterfall when she was visiting the site of Prigen, Pasuruan Regency, East Java.
The Mahameru team was using a boat and swimming the 1-meter-deep river to find the 16-year-old Ayu Agus Purwati, reported tempointeraktif.com.
“But the team has yet to discover the body of the girl,” Kusno, head of the Prigen village, said on Sunday.
He added the girl and her seven other friends had arrived at the site when rain started pouring down.
“They kept on swimming under the waterfall despite the bad weather,” he said.
He added that strong currents flowing from Welirang mountain had entered the river and carried the girl away.
“Her friends attempted to rescue her but to no avail,” he said. (ewd)
