Activists from the AntiCorruption Civil Society Coalition (Kompak) faced another group of demonstrators at the Hotel Indonesian traffic circle in Jakarta on Sunday, kompas.com said.
A group of people, who did not identify themselves, marched and tried to disband the rally by Kompak. As they faced off, the police intervened and separated the two groups to avoid possible clashes.
Kompak activists demanded a full investigation into the Bank Century scandal, while the opposing group rallied behind the police and called for the disbandment of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"Long live the police. Antasari is cruel. Destroy the KPK," one of the demonstrators from the unnamed group shouted.
Antasari Azhar is former KPK chairman, who is now being tried at a district court for premeditated murder of a businessman.
When asked where they were from, the demonstrator said, "We are representing the people who need the police. We come from Sabang to Merauke." Sabang is the westernmost town and Merauke is the easternmost town in Indonesia.
Kompak activists, comprising of politicians, artists and anti-corruption activists, continued with their rally, singing various heroic songs and a song specially dedicated to the KPK.

The group claiming to represent (the?) people who need the police; from Sabank to Merauke must be members of the House of Representatives. It seems to be the only grouping much opposed to the KPK. Although these are elected representatives it is highly unlikely that they represent their constituents in trying to dismantle the KPK. Fear of being jailed for their corruption (past, present or future) is more likely behind their silly "renting-a-crowd" escapades.
