JAKARTA: The Hotel Indonesia traffic circle will no longer be a free public space, the governor announced.
Governor Fauzi Bowo said Sunday he would not allow the city landmark to be damaged in public events.
"This site is open for those who intend to engage in sports or listen to speeches. However, I don't expect the area to be damaged or dirtied. Therefore, I am entrusting the management of this site to the Central Jakarta Police chief and mayor," Fauzi was quoted as saying by kompas.com.
Fauzi also asked Jakarta residents to not organize any inappropriate events at the HI traffic circle, especially gatherings with limited benefits for the public. - JP
