JAKARTA: Dozens of supporters of Persija, the local professional soccer club, attacked a rented public bus on Jl. S. Parman, West Jakarta, on Sunday leaving the windshield broken. No injuries were reported.
Kris, a witness, told news portal tempointeraktif.com the so-called supporters, who were on their way to Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, had begun to get agitated after the bus they were in suddenly stalled.
They disembarked and began walking. However, a few minutes later, the bus' driver was able to restart the engine.
"The supporters were angry and stopped the bus," he said, adding that the bus driver and his assistant fled as the soccer hooligans approached.
After the incident, it was reported the police had arrested one suspect who was being held for questioning. - JP
