The Ministry of Religious Affairs has registered 135 Indonesian nationals who died during the annual haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, which concluded on Friday.

The ministry’s integrated haj communication system said on Tuesday 10 pilgrims were the latest to die from various illnesses, including lever, hypertension, cardiac arrest and respiratory failure.

Most of the dead pilgrims were aged 55 years old or more.

The government had required that all Saudi Arabia-bound pilgrims pass health screening, citing the extreme weather in the Middle East country.

About 200,000 Indonesian joined millions of Muslims across the world in the pilgrimage. They have started to stream into the country after one month of religious duties.
