Syrian human rights groups say authorities have arrested an opposition activist at the Lebanese border crossing.
The Syrian Human Rights League and The National Organization for Human Rights say Khalaf al-Jarboua was arrested Sunday at the Arida border crossing as he was traveling to neighboring Lebanon and handed over to political security agents.
No reasons were given for the 48-year-old activist's arrest. But SHRL said in a statement Tuesday that he is a member of a pro-democracy group known as the Damascus Declaration.
Most members of that group have been arrested, tried and sentenced.
The SHRL called on Syrian authorities to immediately release Jarboua or give him a public trial.
