The Customs and Excise office at Tanjung Priok seaport in Jakarta has foiled an attempt to smuggle liquor and electronics from Singapore and China worth Rp 5 billion (US$530,000), kompas.com has reported.
Director general of customs and excise, Anwar Suprijadi told journalists Tuesday that the liquor, which were of various international brands, were imported by two companies, identified only by their initials PT TMNP and PT WK.
The companies declared that they were importing four containers of stock lot paper in rolls. On further investigation, customs officers found that only two of the four containers contained the declared items.
The other containers were filled with various liquors and electronics and machine parts.
Two suspects of TMNP have been detained, while the customs office is still questioning an employee of WK.
