The Islamic Students Association (HMI) has planned to surround legislative offices across the archipelago as the House of Representative holds a plenary session to  discuss a plan to form an inquiry committee to investigate the Bank Century scandal on Tuesday.

“We have instructed all members of HMI in all cities and regencies to hold similar action as our members in Jakarta, that is to besiege Legislative Council offices,” said Bambang M. Fajar, a spokesman of the association, as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.

Bambang said that the rallies were intended to "guide" the investigation into the scandal.

The  House of Representatives is very likely to set up the much-awaited inquiry committee to investigate the scandal.

The House's internal regulation says a petition will be submitted to the plenary session, after a discussion at the Consultative Body, so that an inquiry team can be set up.

The committee's first step will be to summon, as a priority, the then Bank Indonesia governor Boediono (now Vice President) and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

The investigation will revolve around the controversial bailout of Bank Century which cost Rp 6.7 trillion (US$716.9 million), a lot more that the initially agreed amount of less than Rp 1 trillion.
