Comments: Authorities told to seal Senayan City

A- A A+

A top city councilor has urged the Jakarta Building Supervision and Order Agency to seal Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta following a dispute over the land the commercial facility is built upon.

The deputy speaker of the city council, Lulung Lunggana, said Tuesday the agency should uphold the law indiscriminately.

"The agency needs to seal the building immediately to avoid giving the impression that it acts quickly against slum areas but hesitantly against luxury buildings," Lulung was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Your comments:
That's right. The government should act quickly against slum areas and also luxury buildings that are unsuitable with the master plan. Both are the same.

"The governor's image is at stake. People are curious if he will side with big businesspeople or defend the public's interests," Taufik said.

Isn't keeping a shopping mall open, and keeping hundreds of store clerks in their jobs in the interest of the public?

I absolutely think business practices should be audited, but at the same time authorities should not just close businesses down.

People seem to forget sometimes that the "big businesspeople" are getting food on the table for many households.

Sighs for a vampire -- Nov. 29, p. 9

"How about Facepunch?" Bella (Kristen Stewart) says, her eyes flickering for the umpteenth time, her face down, as if talking to her own breasts. "Facepunch?" her friend asks. "Why, that's an action movie, Bella!" "Action, adrenaline, that's kind of my thing." (By Rain Chudori-Soerjoatmodjo, Jakarta)

Your comments:
The Twilight books have been No. 1 best sellers for a while now, and it's because most people love the books. This isn't because of the vampires or the werewolves; it's simply because of the relationship between Edward and Bella. It's about a beautiful love story that happened to be made into films.

Now I think that Catherine Hardwicke could have done a better job with the first movie because I think that Bella and Edward fell in love way too fast (not like in the book), however New Moon couldn't have stuck to the book any closer, Chris Weitz took out a big chunk of the book, which was Bella's depression.

Try to understand that this is a love story, so when Edward leaves it would be a bit strange if Bella just got on with her life.

For example Romeo and Juliet took their own lives for each other yet no one said that was a bit dramatic, and may I add they were even younger than Edward and Bella... so its quite clear that you have something against teenagers (meaning you are old) but that's the interesting thing about these books that are loved by people of all ages... boys and girls... but hated by bitter, petulant, dejected people who hate love stories.
