SURABAYA: To help promote anticorruption, the East Java provincial administration is to establish 10 "honesty canteens" in schools in each of its regencies/municipalities.
Head of the East Java Education and Culture Agency Suwanto said on Tuesday that the canteens would be established in elementary up to senior high schools.
"They will offer merchandise including stationery, food and drinks, but without any cashiers."
He said the students would serve themselves, placing payment in a special container.
"This, we believe, will help them develop an anti -corruption, -collusion and -nepotism *anti-KKN* attitude within themselves."
He said anti-KKN programs would be a priority for next year's provincial education programs. He said the evaluation of the honesty canteen program would be conducted by the respective schools under the surveillance from the police, prosecutors' office and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). - JP
