A 5.5-magnitude quake struck off the coast of Talaud Islands in North Sumatra early Wednesday morning. There were no reports of damage.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake struck at 3:32 a.m. Jakarta time, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres and was centered 116 kilometers southeast of Talaud Islands regency's capital Melonguane.
Earlier, shortly before midnight Tuesday, a quake, measuring also 5.5 on the Richter scale, shook the same area.
