Indonesian riders secured the top three positions in the 10th and final stage in Bali on Wednesday, but Mehdi Sohrabi cruised to emerge the overall winners of the 1,513-kilometer 2009 Tour d’Indonesia that began in Jakarta on Nov. 22.

Adi Ahmad Jukardi, of Dodol Picnic Garut Team (DPG), won the 136.8-kilometer stage from Gilimanuk to Denpasar, finishing in three hours, 11 minutes and 29 seconds.

The second and third place went to Agung Ali Sahbana of Customs Cycling Club (CCC), and Andika Riyanto of Bintang Kranggan Cycling Club (BKG), both crossing the finish line in the same group as the leader.

Sahbana also won the 52.1-kilometer intermediate sprint on Wednesday, followed by BKG’s Riyanto and Marx John Lexer Guevarra of the Philippines.

Taking the 10th stage win in his Tour debut, Jukardi said his victory was the result of solid teamwork.
“I can’t believe I won. This 10th stage was a bit difficult because there were more climbing roads and strong winds, but we did it thanks to solid teamwork,” the 22-year-old said.

Wednesday’s race was the last stage to decide the Tour winners. An 84.6-kilometer criterium over 16 laps will still be held in Renon, Denpasar, on Thursday, but will not count toward the standings.

Iranian riders maintained their domination from last year’s Tour d’Indonesia, with the Tabriz Petrochemical Team (TPT) winning the team category with a total time of 94 hours, 15 minutes and 56 seconds, and its rider Mehdi Sohrabi sweeping all three categories: climb (red polka dot jersey), sprint (green jersey) and yellow jersey.

Sohrabi topped the three categories of the individual general classification. In the climb category, he scored 20 points — beating Amir Zargari and Ghader Mizbani with 15.

In the sprint category, Sohrabi collected 21 points, followed by Nor Rizwan Zaenal of the Malaysian National Cycling Team and Indonesian Fatahillah Abdullah in third with 8 points.

Sohrabi clocked a total time of 31 hours, 32 minutes and 20 seconds to win the yellow jersey, followed by last year’s winner, Ghader Mizbani, with 31 hours, 34 minutes and 47 seconds. Andrey Mizuroj from Kazakhstan followed in third with 31 hours, 37 minutes and 40 seconds.

Sohrabi said this year’s tour was more difficult for the Iranian team compared to last year, because it was harder to complete in all the stages with only five cyclists in their team.

“Eleven stages is too much for five cyclists; we should have had 11 [cyclists] at least,” he said.

In the national category (red and white jersey), Hari Fitrianto of the Polygon Sweet Nice team (PSN) became the top Indonesian rider, booking a total time of 31 hours, 46 minutes and 24 seconds.

Sitting in second and third place were Didit Purwanto of the Yogyakarta team with 31 hours, 48 minutes and 22 seconds, and Budi Santoso with 31 hours, 48 minutes and 37 seconds.
