JAKARTA: Chief detective of the National Police Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi failed to meet leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Thursday because of a sudden meeting with the House of Representatives.

Acting KPK chief Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean said he was called by chairman of the House Marzuki Alie.

"The meeting with the chief detective will be rescheduled for tomorrow," Tumpak said as quoted by kompas.com.

The new chief detective was initially set to pay a courtesy visit on the KPK leaders in a bid to build a good relationship between the two institutions.

Tumpak, meanwhile, said today's session with the House was likely to discuss the Bank Century scandal.

"Yes. We may talk about a financial audit from the Supreme Audit Agency *BPK* on the bank," he said.

The House itself has agreed to form an inquiry committee to investigate the Rp 6.7 trillion (US$ 710 million) bailout scandal and call witnesses including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. - JP
