Brig. Gen. Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus officially took over from Maj. Gen. Pramono Edhie Wibowo as the Army Special Forces (Kopassus) commander in a ceremony led by Army chief Gen. George Toisutta on Friday.

Lodewijk is not new to the elite force having spent many years at Kopassus’ counter-intelligence unit after graduating from the Military Academy in 1981. He left Kopassus in 2003 for other assignments within the Army.

He led the Army’s education and training command before returning to Kopassus.

Pramono, a brother-in-law of President Susilo bambang Yudhoyono, has been appointed the West Java military commander. He is scheduled to officially take over from Maj. Gen. Rasyid Qurnuen Aquary on Dec. 16.
