PEKANBARU: Police in Kampar regency, Riau province, said Friday they had confiscated more than 200 illegally harvested logs.

They added two men were arrested and several others were being sought.

Kampar Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. MZ Muttaqien said the arrests followed the seizure of a truck carrying 21 logs on Jl. Lubuk Sakat in Penghentian Raja village, Siak Hulu district.

Mulyadi, the truck driver, was arrested after failing to provide required documentation for the logs, he added. Muttaqien said Mulyadi told police investigators he was transporting the logs to their owner, Datuk Hasan.

The police later arrested Hasan and seized more logs from his sawmill. "Hasan has been named a suspect for storing illegally harvested logs," Muttaqien added. - JP
