Comments: House supports ban on `Balibo'

A- A A+

House of Representatives commission chairman Kemal Azil Stamboel said Wednesday that the Film Censor Institute's (LSF) ban on Balibo, a movie about the death of five Australian journalists in the then East Timor in 1975, was the right decision. "I believe the LSF has, as is standard, to review a movie that bothers our people. The movie could ignite unrest in society," he said, as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the movie was not appropriate because the Balibo case investigation was completed years ago.

"The movie is not an effort to build a better relationship between Indonesia and Australia," he said.

House Commission I member Tantowi Yahya concurred. "We always support the LSF's decision to ban a movie that attacks our sovereignty," he said.

The war is over so get over it, in every war there is mistakes and so forget about it ... Australia is not always right, Indonesian makes mistakes too. So what?

Why censor a film that shows an incident in the past? Are (the rulers) afraid of the truth? Indonesia pretends to be a democratic nation so there must be freedom of opinion.
