Power blackouts to continue in January

DENPASAR: The Bali branch of state power company PLN stated rotational power outages would likely to continue until mid-January.

The island has experienced rotational blackouts since Oct. 10 due to insufficient power supplies after Gilimanuk power plant commenced maintenance works. The company promised the blackout would end Dec. 6 when the plant was expected to resume its operations.

"Unfortunately, we found that one of critical machines in the plant has broken down," branch spokesperson Agung Mastika said.

"We need to purchase that machine abroad and the process will take longer than we expected."
