BATAM: Riau Islands Governor Ismed Abdullah has expressed bafflement at being named a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Provincial administration spokesman Irmansyah said Tuesday the KPK had issued conflicitng statements regarding the governor's status.

"On Nov. 21, KPK deputy chairman Ade Raharja declared Ismed a suspect," he said.

"The next day, a KPK spokesman denied that Ismed had ever been named a suspect. Now he has once again been named a suspect.

"The KPK's statements are incongruous," he added.

Ismed has not yet received any letter from the KPK informing him of his status. - JP
