The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is seeking revision of the draft of a government regulation on lawful interception, which includes revocation of an article on a single interception service center.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi said Friday the revision suggested that the government rewrite conditions for and mechanism of wiretapping in line with the legislation that grants interception authority to the anti-graft body.
Interception has helped the KPK unravel corruption cases involving state officials, including House of Representatives lawmakers.
KPK has opposed to the draft regulation on the grounds that it will hamper its combat against corruption. The government, however, insists on regulating the use of interception so as not to infringe human rights and spark conflicts between state institutions as evident in the recent stand-off between the National Police and KPK.
Johan said the KPK recommendations had been submitted to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Minister of Communication and Information.
The Constitutional Court has ruled that the government and the House establish a law governing interception.
