JAKARTA: Hundreds of people took to the street to mark World Anti-Corruption Day on Wednesday
AKARTA: Hundreds of people took to the street to mark World Anti-Corruption Day on Wednesday. Rock band Slank chose to rally in their own way from home.
Well, not literally home, but at a house that has served as their headquarters in South Jakarta's Durent Tiga.
"Initially we wanted to go to the KPK *the office of the Corruption Eradication Commission*, but for safety reasons, we opted to play *music* here instead. It's better than doing nothing at all on this day," band drummer Bimo Setiawan Sidharta or Bimbim said, as quoted by newsportal inilah.com on Wednesday.
At the event, the band performed five of their hit songs such as "Jangan Takut" (Fear Not), "Gosip Jalanan" (Street Gossip) and "Birokrasi Kompleks" (Complex Bureaucracy). Hundreds of Slankers - as the band's fans are known - attended the mini concert held informally inside the house.
Slank has been active in sup-porting the anticorruption movement through their songs, including one that caused a few members of the House of Representatives to see red.
"If we just marched in the street, it wouldn't have felt like we did anything. Just give us *musical* instruments and we'll do our part," Bimbim added. - JP
