DENPASAR: Karya Segara fishing group has planted 25 structures for coral transplantation to preserve Serangan underwater ecosystem.
Such activities, funded by the fishing community, are parts of efforts to save the environment.
"This shows our strong commitment in various environmental conservation efforts," said Wayan Patut, the group coordinator.
Patut commented that Serangan island and its surrounding water were now in dilapidated because of the failed reclamation project.
The Serangan community aimed to expand its coral transplantation area to around 2 and 3 hectares.
"We have already planted 25 units of structures formed like reef-balls," he said.
"We call on the government and the private sector to support our conservation efforts." - JP
