JAKARTA: The city administration plans to make a bicycle lane from Jl. Lebak Bulus to Jl. Sisingamaraja in South Jakarta, which is expected to operate next year.
“The bicycle road will take up part of the current sidewalk,”
City Traffic Police chief Sr. Comr. Condro Kirono told vivanews.com on Sunday.
“The cyclists and pedestrian will share the sidewalk.”
Condro said the sidewalk would be widened and the cyclists would be required to wear helmets and follow specially made traffic signs.
Previously, the mayor of South Jakarta Syahrul Effendi said the project aimed to reduce the city’s air pollution.
The bicycle lane will be extended to the Blok M bus station — Jl. Ku-ningan route.
Many office building are located in these areas with more workers taking bicycles to work.
