City to buy 6 hectares for forests

JAKARTA: The city administration will commence the purchase of six hectares of land in East and North Jakarta in 2010 to add to the existing 605 hectares area of city forests.

Head of the forestry division at the Agriculture and Maritime Agency Desman Sitorus said the agency had allocated Rp 32 billion for land acquisition, construction and planting project in the two areas - Munjul subdistrict in East Jakarta and Marunda in North Jakarta.

He said the land in Munjul subdistrict, which was around 2.8 hectares, was owned by six people. The area in Mujul would be dedicated to endangered trees.

"Those who want to see endangered trees can go there," he told beritajakarta.com Monday. - JP
