Landslide kills Freeport employee

TIMIKA: An employee of mining company PT Freeport died and four others suffered injuries in a landslide at the company's mining site in Papua on Sunday.

Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said on Monday that the landslide was caused by heavy rain on the hilly site.

However, Freeport spokesman Mindo Pangaribuan said the landslide occurred outside the mining site.

"One employee died and four others are now being treated at Tembagapura hospital. We express our deepest condolences," Pangaribuan said. - JP
