During the trial of Jerry Hermawan Lo, accused of aiding in the murder of Nasruddin Zulkarnaen, Sigid Haryo Wibisono claimed he gave hundreds of millions of rupiah to a police investigative team as well as a fellow defendant.

One of the alleged recipients, the National Police team, was led by then South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Chaerul Anwar.

Sigid testified that he paid Rp 650 million (US$69,100) in total, Rp 500 million to former South Jakarta Police chief Wiliardi Wizard to finance the work of his own team and Rp 150 million to the police team.

“I gave the money as a friendly gesture,” he was quoted as saying by news portal detik.com.
When the panel of judges asked what Antasari Azhar, the alleged mastermind of the murder of
the state pharmaceutical company director, had promised him in return for shelling out such a big amount, Sigid denied he was made any offers.

In a related trial, Antasari claimed someone was harassing his wife via SMS, which he had reported to National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, who then formed the team led by Chaerul.

During this session, Antasari testified as a defence witness for Wiliardi Wizard, who allegedly ordered Jerry to execute Nasruddin.

“I knew about [the police investigation team] from Sigid,” Antasari said at the hearing as quoted by
Antara.

He expressed his surprise that Sigid knew about his filing a report to the National Police chief, saying, “I never told Sigid about [it].”

“He called, asking whether it was true that I told the police chief [about the messages]. Then he said Chaerul was at his house in Pati Unus [South Jakarta],” Antasari said.

In Antasari’s own trial, prosecutors played a recording of a conversation between Antasari and Nasruddin’s third wife, Rhani Juliani, which took place in room 803 of the Hotel Gran Mahakam in South Jakarta in May 2008. The recording, however, was inaudible.

The recording was taken from the memory card of Nasruddin’s cell phone, Rubi Zukri Alamsyah, an expert witness, said.

“Nasruddin had called Rhani to find out where she was and Rhani replied that she was ‘at a friend’s’ and then Nasruddin asked Rhani not to hang up,” Rubi said.

Prosecutors also presented a recording of a conversation between Wiliardi, Sigid and Antasari, said to be 90 minutes long. Prosecutor M. Pandiangan told news portal detik.com before the trial that portions of the recording included conversations where Antasari rehearsed scenarios to kill Nasruddin. When played later in the hearing, however, the recording was not clear enough to confirm this claim.
