Letters: Freeport clarifies

With regard to an article in The Jakarta Post on, Dec. 15 page 5 titled "Landslide kills Freeport employee", we would like to clarify that falling materials from a small, non-operational landslide struck and caused fatal injuries to a PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) employee on Sunday, Dec. 13 outside of our mining area.

An incident investigation is underway, including geotechnical assessment of the area, and will be conducted in conjunction with governmental authorities.

PTFI extends our heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and loved ones. There have been no other people injured in the accident as reported in the article.
