TANGERANG: Prosecutors in the trial of Iranian nationals Sonia Rougda and Mohamad Javad, charged with attempted smuggling of crystal methamphetamine, have sought a 10-year sentence for the two.
“Sonia was arrested on July 16 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, while Javad was arrested later on in the same case,” said prosecutor Saimun at the Tangerang District Court, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Sonia was alleged to have carried 3.1 kilograms of crystal meth in three milk cartons, while Javad reportedly carried another 1 kilogram in one carton.
The court is also trying other Iranian nationals in separate cases of attempted smuggling of the drug.
More than 20 Iranians have been arrested at Soekarno-Hatta for attempting to smuggle crystal meth, the city’s drug of choice, into Jakarta.
