Hanura finds Finance Ministry fund in Bank Century

A- A A+

A member of the House of Representatives inquiry committee into the Bank Century bailout, Akbar Faisal from the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), said he had found a report indicating the Finance Ministry had deposited money in Bank CIC, one of three ailing banks that eventually merged to form Century.

"The fund was about US$24 million [Rp 227 billion]. It was a donation from the United States government and was transferred from state-owned bank BNI to Bank CIC. This is strange because state funds are supposed to be deposited in state-owned banks," he said when questioning Financial Intelligence Unit (PPATK) chairman Yunus Hussein on Thursday.

The alleged event took place between 2002 and 2003, he said, and at that time the finance minister was the current Vice President, Boediono.

Yunus is still being questioned by the House.
