In With the New
WEEKENDER | Thu, 12/17/2009 5:34 PM |
The year 2010 is upon us, a fresh start and, traditionally, a time to look back on what has passed and also to look forward to what lies ahead. We do that in this issue, with a recap of some of the people and events that made a difference in 2009, as well as the new technological innovations on the horizon that will make this a brave new world.
Also in this issue is an in-depth report on music that does not fit into the commercially oriented mold, including a band whose critical tunes have found a niche market, and the role of protest music in today’s democratic society. The “old” has also become trendy and new in some respects, with contributing writer Hana Miller profiling the growing popularity of gamelan music in the United States.
January is also a special month for the WEEKENDER, which was first published in January 2007. Time has truly flown by, and I find it difficult to believe we are already three years old. My sincere thanks to the many people who have contributed in ways great and small to making the magazine what it is today. It is what it is.
