President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono summoned three coordinating ministers on Monday, asking them to brief him on the latest political conditions during his overseas trip on Dec. 13-20.
The President called the limited Cabinet meeting after opening the 19th national congress of the Indonesian Red Cross.
“The three coordinating ministers reported to the President on issues related to their respective responsibilities,” Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Radjasa said after the meeting.
He dismissed speculation the meeting was related to the House of Representatives’ summonses for Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in connection to the controversial Bank Century bailout.
Both Boediono and Mulyani attended the Cabinet meeting on Monday, which lasted one and a half hours.
Hatta said he had briefed the President about food security ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. “That the President calls the Vice President and ministers for a meeting is just common practice,” Hatta said.
Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Sutyanto confirmed the planned questioning of Boediono and Mulyani was not part of the meeting’s agenda.
“The agenda was general. The President had just arrived and as usual he asked us to brief him. I gave him an update of political, legal and security issues,” Djoko said.
He said the President did not specifically discus the Century case as he had responded to the issue on the sidelines of the UN climate conference in Copenhagen last week.
