Sumba promotes culture and tourism in Bali

DENPASAR: The Sumba regional administration promoted its cultural and tourism potential through the Sumba Night event at the Bali Dance Festival Restaurant in Jimbaran on Saturday night.

Dancers performed West Sumba traditional dances such as Woleka and Kataga dances.

Sumba Regent Julianus Pote Leba stressed Bali has become a gate to Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara. "All flights to Sumba come from Bali. All visitors arrived in Bali first before continuing their trip to Sumba," the regent said.

There are only two flights to Sumba by Merpati and Transnusa plying Bali-Sumba every day.

The promotional event aims to attract more visitors to the island, rich in natural and cultural traditions. But lack of tourist infrastructure in Sumba has held back many visitors. - JP
