Pretty signs up for slimming contest for money

JAKARTA: Comedian Pretty Asmara has always been proud of being overweight as it has helped her with her career. But that hasn’t stopped her from signing up for an upcoming slimming contest, The Biggest Loser Asia.

Pretty, who weights 141 kilograms, says the contest’s US$100,000 prize has convinced her to try her luck.

“The prize... it’s just way too big!” says the 32-year-old actress. “Who can resist that much money?” she adds.

Of course, besides the financial reward, Pretty says she’s tired of being overweight, although that doesn’t mean she hates her body.

“I know my weight has brought me much success,” says Pretty, who heard about the contest from a friend. “But I’ve been living like this for 32 years, and I realize it’s time for me to get into shape, even if it is only for a little while.”

“Just once in my lifetime, I want to know how it feels to be slim,” she adds.

Pretty says she has already attended a series of auditions for the contest, which challenges people with obesity to dramatically reduce their weight by adopting a healthier lifestyle.

“The winner will also campaign against obesity across Asia. I’m so up for doing that!” says the 1.45-meter-tall woman.

So, what if she succeeds in the contest? Won’t she be afraid of losing her job?

“Not at all,” she tells reporters. “In fact, I can be more popular, right? And no doubt more people will fall in love with the slim Pretty,” she laughs. – JP
