National carrier Garuda Indonesia on Sunday ruled out reinstating a pilot despite an appeal court overturning his conviction for causing a crash landing in 2007 that killed 21.
The Yogyakarta High Court quashed Capt. Marwoto Komar’s conviction for negligence in the fiery crash of a Boeing 737-400 airliner at Yogyakarta airport on March 7, 2007, lawyers said last week.
Your comments:
All the evidence previously presented pointed to gross pilot negligence; I would not want to fly with this pilot under any circumstances. I am therefore pleased to learn that Garuda will not re-employ this pilot but I do worry that he will be flying again for another airline somewhere in Indonesia.

As a comment to the last section of the article, it’s all about money. All Indonesian airlines were blacklisted for few years from landing in the EU and it really should stay like that for few more years. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the EU took four airlines off the list this year. Two of these airlines placed a big order of Airbus airplanes, just few months earlier, and the other two are so small and insignificant that they will never operate in Europe. Bear in mind there are more than 50 registered airlines in Indonesia.
