Madiun regent Muhtarom is receiving medical treatment at a local health center after being stabbed by a resident during a social event at Kincangwetan village in Madiun on Tuesday night.
Antara state news agency reported that the jab had caused some bruising on Muhtarom’s stomach. A spokesman from the regent’s administration, Mardi'i, said the regent was not suffering from serious injuries.
Madiun Police have arrested the resident, identified by the initials Yy.
“We are questioning the resident about the case. We will charge the resident with attempted murder,” head of the Madiun police office AKBP Umar Efendi told journalists.
He added that the villager had allegedly stabbed the regent due to the latter’s unsatisfactory answers to villagers' questions on recent problems.
“The resident went home and got a screwdriver. Yy used the screwdriver to stab the regent as he was busy shaking hands with villagers at the end of the event,” he said.
The police confiscated the screwdriver, a wallet, a cell phone and a jacket. (ewd)
