Public Service Agency (BLU) of Transjakarta has recorded that 268 accidents involving Transjakarta buses this year, a significant increase from 167 last year.
Kompas.com has reported that 12 people were killed while 36 others were seriously injured in incidents this year. October saw most incidents with 67 cases.
Daryati Asrining Rini, head of the agency, said on Friday that road users' ill discipline was a dominant factor leading to those accidents.
“Most motorists take the lanes that are supposed to be used by Transjakarta buses only,” Daryati said.
Gunardjo, head of the agency, which monitors the bus system, said that pedestrians preferred to use the bus lanes when crossing roads instead of zebra crossings. (ewd)
