Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani may find themselves in the hot seat for their alleged decision-making mistake concerning the Bank Century debacle.

But public support grows. Boediono and Mulyani are considered the most responsible regarding the decision to bailout the ailing bank at a meeting they led in November last year. Boediono was Bank Indonesia governor when the bailout, said to have cost the country Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), was issued.

Their key role in the bailout was shown in an audit report on the debacle from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) submitted to the House of Representatives late last month. Pressure grew for Boediono and Mulyani to resign.

Your comments:
It is incorrect to say that most people do not support Sri Mulyani and Pak Boediono. The elections were won, in part, because of the presence of such folk in government. This is not about corruption or Bank Century anymore, but, it is about cutting Sri Mulyani down to size, by her detractors in Golkar and PDI-P.

Essentially, SBY is making a choice to save one - Pak Boediono or Sri Mulyani. The detractors want to send a message that the law must have exemptions for special interests, or special interests will make sure the law makers themselves are exempt! This is a classic struggle between business-politics-and-the rule of law.

Which way Indonesia treads will decide whether it will be a large and powerful country in the region, or whether it'll be a large country with a powerful business lobby. Good luck to Indonesia. The world is watching with keen interest.

I think the title is misleading because just a few people support them. The majority including most of the parliament and political party members do not support them. Moreover, many of them request both of them to resign.

Why do our politicians fail? -- Dec. 17, p. 6

In spite of their "purportedly" common vision toward a better and more livable world, our politicians have failed. Certainly not all of them were, or are, insincere. Nevertheless, they have failed to deliver. Today, we live in a more comfortable, but not a "better" world. Conflicts and wars are tearing us apart - whereas, peace and harmony remain issues for discussion among our elite.

In his historic speech in Cairo on June 4 this year, President Obama spoke about the need to "have the courage to make a new beginning". Later, during the UN General Assembly on Sept. 23, he emphasized, "The time has come for the world to move in a new direction." (By Anand Khrisna, Jakarta).

Yes, Pak Krishna, first we have to agree that Pancasila is the only sane and viable solution to the challenges we facing order to able to survive and be respected equally with other nations.

The only way to be able to understand and accept Pancasila is to change our orientation from outside to inside. My understanding of the values of Pancasila has made me proud to be Indonesian.

If any from Indonesia is not yet proud to be Indonesian, there must be something wrong with their understanding of Pancasila.

Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity) is actually something that we can offer the world. The solution to the world's problems on many issues. Be it religious conflicts, the economy, injustice, etc. What you are offering here is, in fact, very down to earth. But somehow we humans always overlook and undermine the simple things and prefer to think of more complicated things.
