JAKARTA: The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) said Thursday it found indications PT Jakarta International Expo (Jiexpo) had monopolized the Jakarta Fair since 1991.
In a press release, the KPPU pointed out the fair was by law supposed to be held at the Kemayoran Expo, but there was no specific mention that Jiexpo be appointed the perpetual organizer of the annual event.
After its examination, the KPPU issued recommendations for the city administration not to limit the fair to one particular venue, and if it did, then to ensure the organizing was in the hands of the administration as the public manager.
"If the venue is to be fixed, then the administration must hold a tender for every event, based on the principle of competition for the market for a period of time that should be evaluated objectively," KPPU spokesman A. Junaidi said in the release. -JP
