Dozens of people from a Chinese community in Solo, Central Java, paid Thursday a last tribute to former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid.

The community leader, Edi Candra, said his community respected Gus Dur for his tireless effort to uphold pluralism and protect minorities in the countries.

"Without Gus Dur, discrimination against Chinese-Indonesian people will remain exist," Edi Candra said as quoted by Kompas.com.

Gus Dur, who died on Wednesday at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, is known as a president who allowed Chinese community to celebrate Imlek or Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditions publicly.
